Frequently Asked Questions

Is therapy right for me?

This is a very personal decision.  Sometimes we think we are doing just fine, and other times we need a little extra support.  Therapy is for anyone who wants to make changes in their lives, grow in a new direction or feels stuck and unsure how to proceed.  If you are unsure about whether or not therapy is right for you, please give me a call and we can discuss if therapy can be beneficial for your particular circumstances.

What should I expect from my first session?

The first session is a chance for us to get to know one another and to determine if my therapeutic style is a good fit for you.  I will ask questions about what brought you to therapy and what your goals are, and it is a chance for you to ask me about my experience, history and how I will approach our work together.  I will review confidentialiy, payment, cancellations and communication between appointments.

How do you handle confidentiality?

All information shared in session is confidential with safety as the only exception.  This means if you are in danger of hurting yourself or someone else, or (for clients under 18) if someone else is hurting you, then I will do whatever necessary to keep you safe, including notifying important people in your life.

When working with couples, I have a "no-secrets" policy, meaning I will not keep information between the two parties confidential. However, I will not share with an outside third party.

Do you accept insurance? How are payments made?

I do not accept insurance, but am willing to provide you with a summary bill at the end of the month.  I charge $175 per therapy hour (50 minute session).  I accept cash, check or credit card.  Payment is due at the start of each session.

What is your cancellation policy?

I have a 24 hour cancellation policy.  If you don't cancel within the cancellation window, you will be charged the cost of the full session.
